There was a 30 day free trial offer for NowTV on my XBox, so I thought I'd give it a go. So tonight's viewing was...

Haywire (2011) - nice little action thriller from Steven Soderberg. Has a cast full of people I like (Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton) and was rather impressed by Gina Carano as the lead. Nothing big or fancy, but a nicely told tale of a sold out spy.

The Monster Squad (1987) - altogether now "WOLFMAN'S GOT NARDS!!!" Another one of those fun eighties kid's adventure movies, but one I hadn't seen since the VHS release. Surprised to see it was co-written by Shane Black. It's a shame Robocop 3 seemd to have killed co-writer/director Fred Dekker's career.

Fright Night (2011) - since we were in the fun horror genre already, I went with this. Again, just a fun ride, with David Tennant being hugely entertaining. It always amuses me when he's sweary and he's rather sweary in this. I like Colin Farrel as well and he certainly seemed to be enjoying himself.

What I would like? Someone older, quieter, ore restrained. Less hyperactivity. Something maybe like Dougray Scott's character in Hide.

Who I would like? Paterson Joseph, James Callis, MArk A Sheppard, if the rumours are true, Peter Capaldi would be magnificent.

Idle thinking spurred by a couple of friends - if the BBC are putting this much effort and making this much fuss, is it going to be someone relatively unknown? COuld it be we've got somebody really famous? Capaldi would fit the bill, as would...Hugh Laurie?

I have few opinions on people like Daniel Rigby or Ben Daniels as I've never really seen them in anything. I really haven't watched much British telly outside Doctor Who and Qi and a few comedy shows for the last five or six years and as much as I'd like Sue Perkins to be Twelve, it seems the only thing definitely known is it's a bloke.

Twelve.
