Movie watching.
Jun. 15th, 2013 11:57 amGot through three films last night, much popcorn was munched.
The Hobbit - I've been in the mood for more Middle Earth since playing Lego:LotR and this scratched the itch. It's been a long, long time since I read the book so I'm not entirely aware of what's from the book and what's from other sources, but in the end it didn't matter. Highlights for me were Sylvester McCoy and Gollum, again it's been a while since I saw the LotR films so I'm not sure how much the CGI has improved since before but I was kind of staring at wonder at how good he looked.
And then I started my odyssey into Blu-Ray from which I am likely never coming back...
Silent Running (1972) - I love this film so much, it's from that wonderful period that started with 2001 and ended just before Star Wars where we got a bunch of interesting, leisurely paced sci-fi. I've already decided I'm buying a copy of this for myself, the definition is stunning and there's a bit of grain there, but that may just be me not used to Blu Ray yet. It has the extras the DVD had and a couple more bits. Best of all though is the packaging, the original movie poster's used for the cover and there's a nice booklet with prodiction designs and stuff in it.
Blue Thunder (1984) - the headphones went on for this one because it has one of my all time favourite soundtracks and I knew this had to be played loud. I've got the first DVD release so this is an amazing step up form that with a new master and higher resolution and I may have leapt up from my chair and punched the air right at the "Alright chaps. How'd you like to follow my leader?" line and then the music kicks in and we're off. Da-da-dadada! Da-da-dadada! some nice extras that I hadn't seen including a look at how they built the helicopter.
