Jun. 16th, 2013 11:30 pmYesterday it was Dr. Who & The Daleks (1965) and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150AD (1966) which I really don't need to describe so I'll just say they both look stunning on Blu-Ray and possibly because I've seen them that often now that I start not necessarily paying attention to what I'm meant to and them mentioning it briefly in the restoration documentaries I was really noticing how Gordon Flemyng uses the fram in Techniscope, with wide shots always having something interesting in them and the tight framing on certain things so the screen's never empty.
Today it was...
Dracula (1958) which I quickly realised I'd never actually seen before, definitely seen Dracula:Prince Of Darkness, Scars of Dracula and Dracula AD1972 (shut it) but never Hammer's original. It's the lovely new version with the reinstated footage discovered in Japan and looks absolutely stunning in HD. Oh and how they reused the sets so well, as soon as they started talking about it it clicked that two locations used the same set, but then they go and show another two also used it. Genius.
Total Recall (1990) which is either the first or second 18 certificate movie i saw at the cinema (Robocop 2 being the other option), it's still absolutely mental, a lot of the effects work holds up very well and I'm convinced more than ever that my interpretation of the movie is the correct one.
